During a new interview with Bret Robbins, director of the first Dead Space game, Robbins stated that the marketing budget the game received was not appropriate for a AAA game of its level, but EA reduced its marketing budget based on initial impressions and reviews the company received.
Companies collect these reviews during the development process to estimate the actual reviews that the games will receive and their commercial performance. Based on the results that EA obtained at the time, the company increased the budget for Mirror's Edge in return, as the game was planned to be released one month after Dead Space and the reviews were for a nearly complete version of the game.
Reviews indicated that Dead Space would receive an average rating of 70, while Mirror's Edge would receive an average of 90. As we know, Mirror's Edge received a good average rating of 81 points, but Dead Space's media reception was better at 89 points.
